1. Why Medical School, Why Northeastern Health Science?
Since childhood, the student had wanted to do work that helps people, and naturally came to dream of a career as a doctor, helping people who are sick in body and mind up close. Wanting to learn not just biology but how hospitals, public health and research actually connect, the student chose Northeastern's Health Science, Pre-Med track, which has strong ties to public health and medicine and is located in Boston's medical hub.

When the student was writing the Health Science major essay, CEO Jay advised, “Rather than trying to package your motivation for applying to medical school so it looks impressive, write the honest feelings you had toward the patient just as they were.” Thanks to that one piece of advice, the student was able to write out a conversation with a patient they had met at the hospital exactly as it happened, and the student says that essay became the piece they are most attached to.
7. When the Student Heard the Acceptance News
The student says that on receiving the Northeastern acceptance email, they could not believe it and logged in again over and over. The whole family celebrated together, and along with the relief of having cleared the first hurdle on the path to Pre-Med, the student also felt a sense of responsibility: “Now it really begins.”
8. To Younger Students Preparing for the Same Major
What the student most wants to tell younger students is that “preparing for Pre-Med is a marathon”. The student advises that rather than trying to build up credentials all at once, you need to keep up volunteering, research and medical experience steadily and build your own story, so that later you can tell a naturally connected story in your essays and interviews.
